Il modo più semplice è il seguente:

Per il computer è necessario il disco di installazione originale di Mac OS X originale (o più recente). Non utilizzare e versioni precedenti di quelle originariamente fornite con Mac e non utilizzare il disco di installazione da nessun altro modello di Mac.

Inserisci il disco e riavvia il computer premendo il tasto Option mentre si riavvia. Dopo circa un minuto in cui si carica, fai clic sulla freccia sotto il DVD di installazione per avviarne.

Quando inizia, fai clic su continua in inglese. Nella barra dei menu, seleziona Utilities e seleziona Utility Disco. Utility Disco può trovarsi in un menu diverso su alcuni dischi di installazione.

Seleziona il tuo disco nella colonna di sinistra (seleziona il disco, non la partizione (seleziona quello con etichetta qualcosa di strano, non "Macintosh HD")) e segui le istruzioni per cancellare il disco. Per ottenere risultati ottimali, scegliere l'opzione per "cancellare in modo sicuro" il disco o per sovrascrivere i dati con 0 anziché solo contrassegnare come spazio libero. Erase and Install

This will erase the contents of your drive, format it into HFS+ and install Leopard clean. EVERYTHING ON YOUR HARD DRIVE WILL BE ERASED. Part One: Erasing the hard drive

9. Click Erase... Important: This step will completely erase your hard drive. If you have installed Microsoft Windows using Boot Camp, or have multiple partitions, this procedure will erase the partition you select.
10. A dialog box appears asking if you want to erase the partition: click Erase.
11. After the partition is erased, choose Quit Disk Utility from the Disk Utility menu.

Part Two: Installing the operating system

1. When the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Installer screen appears, click Continue.
2. When the license agreement appears, click Agree.
3. Select the disk you erased. It should now be highlighted with a green arrow.
4. Click Install. A status bar appears on the bottom of the screen while Mac OS X installs.
5. An Additional Information screen appears, advising you that you operating system has been installed. Click Continue.
6. An Install Succeeded screen appears. Click Restart.
