Mi piace molto OS BitMeter . È gratuito, funziona come un servizio e ha un'interfaccia basata su browser. Funziona anche su Windows e Linux.

Se vuoi misurarlo dal tuo Mac: MenuMeters tieni un totale parziale del volume di rete dall'ultimo riavvio. Ovviamente questo totale non distingue tra traffico locale e internet, quindi se hai altri computer sulla tua LAN potresti essere più adatto a misurarlo direttamente nel modem / router (che di solito ha incorporato la funzionalità statistiche).

Probabilmente l'app più raffinata è Rubbernet ($$). Anche la strozzatura della larghezza di banda.
Rubbernet provides a breakdown of per-app network usage, so you can quickly detect apps that phone home, connect to certain servers without your knowledge, or blame the app that's slowing down your network.

Dai un'occhiata a vnstat :
vnStat is a console-based network traffic monitor for Linux and BSD that keeps a log of network traffic for the selected interface(s). It uses the network interface statistics provided by the kernel as information source. This means that vnStat won't actually be sniffing any traffic and also ensures light use of system resources. However, in Linux at least a 2.2 series kernel is required
Funziona anche su BSD e Mac OSX.
