Note: You can use the activated SIM card from your new iPhone to do this.
To re-activate an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS that displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen:
- Insert a SIM card from the carrier with which you used your phone. Note: If you are using the same carrier, you can use the activated SIM card from your new device to do this. If your device is unlocked by your carrier, you can use any SIM card.
- Connect the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS to iTunes on a computer connected to the Internet. iTunes will then activate the device. You can remove the SIM card at this point and use the iPhone as if it were an iPod touch.
Uso il mio vecchio iPhone 3G come un iPod senza problemi. Quando mi sono trasferito su un iPhone 4 ho rimosso il sim, ho cancellato l'iPhone 3G e funziona perfettamente. Mostra No Sim nella barra in alto, ma funziona bene come un iPod e si connette al mio wifi senza problemi.

Vuoi mantenere il vecchio sim nel telefono. I server iTunes ricorderanno quella specifica SIM e permetteranno al telefono di essere sbloccato ogni volta che verrà ripristinato.
La compagnia telefonica avrà rimosso la SIM ICCID dal servizio in modo che il telefono dirà "in attesa di assistenza" o "in attesa di attivazione", ma altrimenti continuerà a funzionare come dispositivo solo wifi. Il GPS funzionerà se installato. Anche la posizione funzionerà utilizzando la triangolazione GSM in quanto il telefono può vedere le celle anche se non la lasceranno sulla rete per i dati.
