Volevo sapere se un'installazione Mac ha un identificatore con cui Apple potrebbe teoricamente identificare la macchina? Più concretamente mi chiedo se clonerò un'installazione di snow leopard ad esempio il clone avrà anche lo stesso identificatore, oppure OS X non usa identificatori come fa / ha fatto Windows nel giorno?

Il hardware-uuid sembra dipendere dall'hardware usato del mac. Sembra cambiare se uno scambio, ad es. una scheda grafica:
It is possible for a system to lose its serial number so that it will no longer appear either in System Profiler or the I/O Registry. Repairing a system by swapping hardware components is one reason this can happen. Apple does not document the specific details of how a machine can lose its serial number. Once the serial number has been lost there is no means to restore it to the machine.
Apple does not guarantee that all future systems will have a software-readable serial number.
Both of these cases illustrate why asset tracking software should always provide a way for a serial number to be entered manually.
Per quanto ne so, indicano l'UUID quando dicono "numero di serie".
Il numero di serie del sistema sembra essere corretto. Non ho prove per questo diverso da quello che viene utilizzato per la registrazione del tuo Mac con Apple.
In teoria, Apple e gli sviluppatori sono in grado di identificare l'installazione in base all'hardware. Se cloni il tuo sistema sul nuovo hardware ci saranno nuovi UUID e numeri di serie per la nuova installazione.
